Oregano is widely known as a culinary herb for food, only a few will know about its alternative medical uses. It is a common species of Oreganum part of the mint family. It is native to the warm regions of the western and south-western Eurasia and the Mediterranean.

The herb grows between 20 and 80 cm tall with leaves of 1 to 4 cm long. The flowers are purple and 3-4 mm long allocated as erected spikes.
